Fostering with an existing family is a truly rewarding experience and can have a really positive impact on your own children, helping them to understand other people, learn new skills and have fun along the way.
If you are a strong family unit, embarking on the fostering journey can be a great way to give back and allow a local child to experience being part of secure home environment.
One of our brilliant fostering families have two adopted children who expressed their thoughts and feelings about sharing their home with a foster child.
Names have been anonymised for protection.
Child one:
“Hello, my name is Jack, I am 12 years old. I have been adopted by Mum and Dad. From one to three years old I was in foster care. My foster parents were Linda and David, we still keep in contact now with them.”
“I am really happy that we are fostering as we are helping children who have been through similar experiences that I have experienced.”
“I really enjoy having the extra company of someone else because it is fun to get to know someone and learn something new about them every day.”
“Fostering makes us all happy, and I love having Daisy here with us.”
Child two:
“Hello, my name is Bradley, I am 6 years old and I love Pokémon. I have lived in a foster family before because I was adopted by Mam and Dad but was fostered before.
“Daisy keeps me company and I like having her here and she is my sister and my best friend. She is crazy but I like that because I am too, we love being out in nature. I play with her all day, and I sit with her and cuddle her when we watch films.
“I like having someone else in the house and Daisy is doing really well, she does need my help sometimes. I like to help her. We stick together whatever happens.”
